NEW YORK, Dec 06, 2010 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- For the second straight year, Macy's is celebrating generosity and giving throughout the holiday season by declaring December 10 as National Believe Day. As part of Macy's 'Believe' campaign, National Believe Day aims to inspire Americans to embrace the spirit of goodwill, while spreading the holiday season's message through charitable efforts and kindheartedness toward others. To commemorate the day this year, the Make-A-Wish Foundation will grant "Wishes Across America" to children with life-threatening medical conditions. Additionally, Macy's will also host a Double Donation Day for letters mailed in Macy's Santa Mail Letterboxes on December 10.
"The magic of the holiday season comes to life at Macy's with our third annual 'Believe' campaign," said Martine Reardon, executive vice president of marketing for Macy's. "National Believe Day really underscores the message of the campaign as inspired by the New York Sun's famous 1897 'Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus!' editorial - a message of hope, charity and kindheartedness toward all. Last year, Macy's 'Believe' campaign collected more than 1 million letters from children nationwide and donated $1 million to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, and we're proud to bring back National Believe Day and lead people across the country in embracing the compassionate and joyful message of the holiday season."
New Macy's National Believe Day elements will include:
Wishes Across America
In celebration of Macy's National Believe Day, the Make-A-Wish Foundation will grant extra wishes across the country to create a day of "Wishes Across America" for children with life-threatening medical conditions. The goal for "Wishes Across America" is to inspire others to embrace the spirit of goodwill and make a difference in their own community, creating even more reasons to believe. Wishes will be granted in cities across the country, including:
- Seattle - Ivy, 15, will watch the premiere of her own music video at a red-carpet gala
- Casper, WY - Codi, 13, will depart for her long-awaited Jamaican cruise
- Philadelphia, PA - Katherine, 5, will receive a playhouse fit for a princess
- Raleigh, NC - Alejandro, 4, will take an exotic trip to the Dominican Republic
- San Diego - Sharet, 15, will shop for the latest fashions to fill her closet
- Taylor, MI - Destiny, 7, will get a pop-up camper to enjoy with her family during their outdoor adventures
Double Donation Day
As it has for the past two years, Macy's "Believe" campaign invites children to mail letters to Santa using Macy's Santa Mail Letterboxes. Macy's donates $1 for each letter received, up to $1 million, to the Make-A-Wish Foundation. For every stamped letter to Santa that Macy's collects on Friday, December 10, we will be giving an additional dollar to the Make-A-Wish Foundation. That extra $1 is in addition to the up to $1 million Macy's has already committed to donate to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
