Macy’s Hosts Sixth Annual Shop For A Cause

Customers give $5 to local charities and receive special Macy’s 25 percent discount saving pass

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Macy’s (NYSE:M) today announced its sixth annual Shop For A Cause charity shopping event, which has raised more than $38 million for local charities across the country since 2006. Macy’s Shop For A Cause is a unique one-day-only shopping event created to support local charities’ fundraising efforts. More than 8,000 charities across the country will be participating in the shopping event. This year’s Shop For A Cause will take place at all Macy’s stores and on on Saturday, Aug. 27, 2011, and also on Friday, Aug. 26, 2011, in select stores only.

By purchasing a $5 shopping pass to the event, customers support their favorite causes and receive 25 percent off most regular, sale and clearance purchases in the store or online all day Saturday, Aug. 27. Plus, customers have the chance to win a $500 shopping spree. Some exclusions apply; see shopping pass for complete details. Each nonprofit organization participating in the shopping event will keep 100% of every ticket it sells.

“Macy’s is committed to giving back to our local communities. Our annual Shop For A Cause program, which has raised more than $38 million for local and national charities in the past five years, is meaningful for us because it gives our customers and associates an opportunity to give back to the local charities, schools and non-profits that matter a great deal to them,” said Martine Reardon, Macy’s executive vice president of marketing. “We are proud to offer our customers an easy way to make a positive difference while enjoying great savings at Macy’s.”

Shop For A Cause passes sold at all Macy’s stores beginning Aug. 20 through Aug. 27, 2011, and at on Aug. 27, 2011, will benefit the March of Dimes. The March of Dimes, the leading nonprofit organization for pregnancy and baby health, is the exclusive national beneficiary of this year’s event. Shopping passes are also available at the March of Dimes website at from now through Aug. 27, 2011.

“This sale provides great savings to families like ours who are always looking for a smart way to spend,” said Nikki Fleming, mother of the March of Dimes 2011 national ambassador, Lauren Fleming. “Moms and dads are going to be shopping for school clothes and other necessities around this time and these savings passes show Macy’s corporate responsibility to the community and their support for families.”
