Gail Nutt Why are supplier initiatives in the Holistic Plan?
"Macy's, Inc. is committed to fostering the growth of its vendor resources, including minority- and women-owned businesses, by purchasing goods and services from suppliers for both retail and non-retail. Plus, in keeping with Macy's priority of Assortment Differentiation, our ability to source new and unique products gives the company a distinct competitive advantage. Economic reinvestment with minority- and women-owned businesses is one of the ways we support the continued development of our communities."

Howard Thompson "While it's important for corporations to have dollar goals for supplier diversity, our focus is and will continue to be on increasing spend penetration, i.e. MWBE (minority and women owned enterprises) purchases as a percent of total purchases. We will achieve this by maintaining an inclusive environment that is conducive to growing existing relationships, establishing new ones and measuring results. By doing so, we create a 'win-win' situation for suppliers as well as Macy's."

As one of American's leading retailers, Macy's, Inc. has long been recognized for its commitment to fostering the promotion, growth and development of its vendor resources, including minority- and women-owned enterprises.

We are constantly looking for qualified new suppliers of goods and services and we strongly encourage interest from potential partners through our nationally recognized Supplier Diversity Program, which is open to U.S.-based minority- and women-owned enterprises. In 2006, these purchases through this program totaled approximately $772 million. That's good business for Macy's, Inc. and good for our vendors.

As Macy's, Inc. accelerates its level of innovation and leadership through new ideas and fresh thinking, we continue to fuel the growth and development of the communities we serve through the support of local businesses. This win-win strategy is critical to the success of our Supplier Diversity Program. It's a message that resonates throughout our company, starting at the top with Macy's, Inc.'s Chairman, President and CEO Terry Lundgren.

Vendor Opportunities: We purchase goods and services from suppliers in two primary categories - resale (supplying fashion merchandise to Macy's, Inc. stores for resale) and non-resale goods and services (such as operating supplies and equipment and general services). Learn more about the specific product and service areas that best match your business.

Expectations of Vendors: As a company with more than 170 years of retail history, we ask a lot of our partners. In keeping with our standards of quality and service, we seek conscientious and reliable vendors who can provide us with high quality, high-performance and competitive prices. Our Vendor Guidelines tell you more about what we expect from our vendors.

Supplier Diversity Office: Our Program Administrator is available to answer initial questions from prospective vendors. Click here to find out how to contact Macy's, Inc.'s Supplier Diversity Office.

Starting the Process: To start the journey of becoming a Macy's, Inc. vendor, there are two forms you will need to complete. Minority or women-owned businesses must complete a Minority Supplier Information form. After that, the process is fairly simple.
