Macy's, Inc. is the national sponsor of OASIS, the nation's
largest educational and volunteer service program for
mature adults. OASIS offers classes for seniors on topics
that range from the arts and humanities to wellness
and nutrition to current technology. Macy's provides
meeting space for OASIS in 17 Macy's stores and
supports chapters in 13 other locations.
OASIS also offers volunteer opportunities through its
Intergenerational Tutoring program. In 2007, trained
OASIS volunteers provided tutoring on a one-on-one
basis to more than 9,000 at-risk children in more than
900 schools across the country.
Macy's was the local presenting sponsor of "First Ladies:
Political Role and Public Image," which was on display at
the National Constitutional Center in Philadelphia in fall
2007. With more than 125,000 visitors during its threemonth
run, the highly successful exhibition featured
more than two centuries of inaugural and evening
gowns, clothing and jewelry, White House furnishings
and china, photographs and portraits, and campaign
and personal memorabilia. The exhibit's contents
highlighted the demanding duties of the First Lady
and explored the evolution of her role from ceremonial
colleague to international celebrity and recognized
political power. Many artifacts on display were from
the Smithsonian Institution's rarely-traveled First Ladies
permanent collection.
