Foundation Giving Focus and Application

Foundation Giving Focus
The Macy's Foundation focuses its giving primarily in the areas of education, arts/culture, women's issues, HIV/AIDS, and programs to assist youth and minorities. Applicants seeking funding for programs or projects that directly benefit one or more of these areas of strategic focus should indicate their focus clearly on their applications.

The Macy's Foundation does not fund the following:

  • Individuals;
  • Private foundations;
  • Fraternal organizations;
  • Political or advocacy groups;
  • Event or program sponsorships;
  • Non-profit agencies operating primarily in communities where Macy's, Inc. does not do business;
  • Non-profit entities not located and operating primarily in the United States;
  • Charities whose focus and operations are primarily international;
  • Religious organizations when funding is to be used for primarily religious purposes;
  • Salary for non-profit staffing;
  • Fiscal agents and other "umbrella" organizations that provide funding to non-profits.

Application Process

  • To begin the application process, an organization must be invited to apply by a contributions contact of the company. We are unable to accept unsolicited applications.

  • Once an organization is invited to apply, your contributions contact will provide the password required for our online application process. All applications must be submitted online. We are unable to review applications submitted by mail.

  • To determine your contributions contact, please contact the division that operates a store in your geographic area. If you are unsure which division is appropriate for your request or if you have not had the opportunity to speak with the contributions contact covering your geographic area, please see the link at left for contact information. You can also submit an email to Foundationapps@macys.com and your email will be forwarded to Bloomingdale's or the appropriate Macy's division for review. You then will be either invited to apply online or notified that your request does not match the strategic focus of the Foundation. Your email must include your organization's name, address, mission and a brief description of the funding request. An invitation to apply cannot be offered without this information.

  • Please note that the Foundationapps@macys.com mailbox is not monitored daily. It is used only as a holding location for inquiries, and emails are forwarded to the divisions periodically. Rather, we encourage you to make a personal connection with the contributions contact appropriate for your geographic region. Please see the link at left for contact information.

  • Requests for funding through the Macy's Foundation must be from a nonprofit organization with a current 501(c)(3) tax exempt status - and must not be classified as a 509(a)(3) or as a private foundation.

  • Trustees of the Macy's Foundation meet an average of four times a year to review requests for funding.

As noted above, the Macy's Foundation only accepts grant requests submitted online via the www.macysinc.com Web site. To complete a grant application now, click here. (As noted above, the application is password protected and you will not be able to access the application unless you have been invited to apply by a contributions contact of the company.)
