International Civil Rights Walk of Fame
Macy's sponsored the International Civil rights "Walk of Fame" exhibit, which toured six U.S. cities in early 2008. the exhibit featured the actual shoes of past and present civil rights icons that were used to create the footprint impressions embedded in cement at the "Walk of Fame" at the Martin Luther king Jr. national historic site in Atlanta. The display featured 13 pairs of shoes including those of Sammy Davis Jr., rev. Jesse Jackson, Atlanta Mayor Shirley Franklin, Dr. Benjamin Hooks and Congresswoman Maxine Waters.
The International Civil rights "Walk of Fame" was established in 2004 to create a permanent tribute to those whose footsteps created a path toward equality and justice.
Freedom's Sisters
Macy's is the local presenting sponsor of "Freedom's Sisters," a national traveling exhibit honoring 20 African-American women - from key 19th century historical figures to contemporary leaders - who struggled for equality. The exhibit, which debuted in Cincinnati in March 2008, is the first comprehensive exhibit about the women leaders of the Civil rights movement.
The Ford Motor Company Fund, Smithsonian Institution traveling exhibition Services, and Cincinnati Museum Center partnered to create the exhibit, which will travel to eight additional cities during the three-year national tour.
